The Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is pleased to invite you to the upcoming "Charity Book Binding Workshop and Tour at Po Leung Kuk Museum" in partnership with Po Leung Kuk (PLK).
The event will take place on Tuesday, 14th March at 6:30 PM at Po Leung Kuk Main Building, 66 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
Built in 1932, the Main Building of Po Leung Kuk has been home to countless children admitted to the charity. Recognized as a Grade II historic building by the Government in 2009, Main Building is a witness to the Kuk's charitable works in Causeway Bay since the late 20th century and is one of the few historical buildings that retain their original purposes. Join the tour to learn about the architectural features, as well as to explore the historical and cultural stories behind!
Traditional Chinese bookbinding, also called stitched binding, is a classical way of making books for more than a thousand years before the introduction of modern printing. Po Leung Kuk's archival documents date back to the 19th century and many of its books still follow the old way and are bound in threads! Come join us to learn the technique of Chinese bookbinding and craft your own notebook with traditional xuan paper (宣紙) in this workshop!
Special thanks to Dr. Daniel Chan, Chairman of Po Leung Kuk and Board Member of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce who will be joining the tour with our guests.
